Deputy City Clerk

The City of Hardeeville, South Carolina is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional to serve as a Deputy City Clerk for one of the region’s highest growth areas.  Hardeeville is in the heart of the Lowcountry and is strategically located between Savannah, GA and Hilton Head, SC.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB:

The Deputy City Clerk is responsible for providing professional level administrative support to the City Clerk, City Council and City Manager. This entails resolving policy-related, process-related or procedural problems from all department representatives. The Deputy City Clerk must also be able to screen calls to the legislative and executive departments, carry out statutory and delegated functions of the City Clerk in her absence and manage a variety of confidential and complex duties. In addition to assisting with agendas and reports for meetings, this position requires performing human resource tasks. This position carries high potential for advancement in the near future. Work for this role is performed under the direction of the City Clerk and City Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of responsible secretarial and clerical experience including one year of experience comparable to that of Executive Secretary.
  • Experience working in local government preferred, bookkeeping and/or accounting experience a plus. 
  • Twelfth grade education supplemented by college level specialized secretarial courses.
  • Possess or willing to obtain Certification as a Municipal Clerk or participant in Continuing Education for Public Officials program, leading to Certification required. 

A combination of education and experience may be considered.
